Synopsis:	Despite his immense wealth and enormous influence, Arthur Barret (Hurt) cannot give his beloved wife Eleanor a child of her own. Together they conjure up a solution -- a child through sexual surrogacy. Rogert Martin (Harris) accepts the unusual business proposition of siring the child and soon finds himself in love with Eleanor. As the threat of an impending scandal leads to murder, the Barrets' attempts to control their destiny spin their lives out of control. Eleanor turns to Father Michael McKinnon (Branagh) for solace. When the singular priest finds himself also falling in love with Eleanor, the scene is set for tragic consequences.
