Astrid, the daughter, is left to move from foster home to foster home after her mother, Ingrid, murders the man who broke her heart with the poison from her favorite flower, the white oleander. While Ingrid is in prison, she tries to give Astrid the power to survive but the Astrid wants to teach her mother to love.
