Veteran actor Bruce Greenwood has been cast in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek as Christopher Pike, the original captain of the Starship Enterprise. The re-lauch of the Star Trek is said to focus on the early days of Enterprise.

The landmark TV show mainly focused on the second crew of the Starship Enterprise, including captain James T. Kirk, but Christopher Pike was featured in the original, scrapped, pilot and featured back into the series in a two-parter entitled "The Menagerie." Interestingly enough, next week Paramount is showcasing remastered versions of the two Christopher Pike episodes at select movie theaters across the country and will release the remastered original series on DVD and HD DVD on November 20th.

Bruce Greenwood most recently starred in the failed HBO series John from Cincinnati. Star Trek is set to beam up audiences on Christmas Day 2008.
