A New Scream Queen is CrownedI've taken some criticism lately that my most recent articles are simply nothing more than sequel bashing. And to be fair, I can't argue the point. I mean, sequels by their very nature suck.*
Of course, remakes are even worse because they take a great movie from my childhood and ruin it. So, not only do we have a terrible new movie, but all of my old memories of the original movie are tarnished by association.
I'll be honest, I haven't taken a swipe at this week's Prom Night remake yet because some horror remakes are actually better than the original and I thought it was pretty much a given that trying to remake a movie starring original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis was a no-win proposition.
And then, I came across this New York Times article and the YouTube video embedded below.
I must say that I applaud Screen Gems on their clever and unique marketing gimmick for Prom Night. I have no idea if the movie is any good, but getting a cheap scare from a normally stoic movie standee is a good start.
Prom Night starts scaring up business this Friday in theaters across the country.
* The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back are exempt.
