'Transformers' DVD case transforms into Megatron

We like to showcase some of the cool DVD packaging pieces that come across our desks here. The Sept. 2 special edition release for Transformers is definitely one of those.

This special special edition case transforms into Deception baddie Megatron. Yes, that's right. The thing which holds the DVDs can be moved to form the robot character Megatron.

Below we've included the transformation steps which appear on the front and back of the outer sleeve containing the item. (How many DVD cases have you seen that actually require instructions?)

On that same September day you'll also be able to get the Transformers special edition in a package that includes a Optimus Prime mask. You know, so those Autobots get equal treatment.

I'm hoping there's still time for them to release the movie with a Shia LaBeouf mask. You know, so I too can help ruin the Indiana Jones franchise.

UPDATE: Thanks to readers Brian and DJ for sending us this tip. For the initial release of the Transformers DVD last October, Target stores had an exclusive Optimus Prime transforming DVD case. We've included the photo here but if you're really curious, there's also a YouTube video of it in action.

Too bad Paramount didn't make that release universally available as transforming Prime and Megatron would have made nice bookends.
