Disney has released a new photo of Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge from the upcoming Christmas Carol film. The film, to be presented in 3D, uses motion capture technology similar to that used in two of director Robert Zemeckis' other creations, The Polar Express and Beowulf.

Early footage of the film was presented today at the Cannes Film Festival. Co-stars Colin Firth and Robin Wright Penn joined Carrey and Zemeckis at the event.

Kicking off Memorial Day weekend in Los Angeles, a 16,000-mile train tour will take the Charles Dickens adaptation across the country. Visitors will get a free look at the magic behind the movie in its 40 stops across the U.S. A map of destinations is below. More info can be found on the official web site for the tour.

The film opens in conventional theaters and IMAX on Nov. 6.

Carrey seems the perfect candidate for a motion-capture performance. He has always been very animated in his comedy roles. This just takes it to the next level with true digital animation.

On the other hand, I never really cared for The Polar Express. The movements of the characters always seemed a bit... weird. I always felt uncomfortable watching the holiday film beloved many most.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to Disney's A Christmas Carol? Does The Polar Express creep you out as much as it does me? Let us know.
