It's another Live Social Friday and this time we even have a sponsor. Paramount Home Entertainment has graciously given us five Blu-ray copies of Transformers to give away during out Live event right here between 2:00 and 4:00 Eastern.
In the Summer of 2007, Transformers and Live Free or Die Hard made a ton of money with their PG-13 action fare. No, they weren't the first big action movies aimed at adults, but cleaned up enough to reach a younger audience, but it was certainly a big one-two punch that rippled through time to this Summer when Terminator Salvation was released as the first non R rated movie in the franchise.
For better or worse, the MPAA ratings are what they are and there is some evidence that the rating have changed over the years. Today's PG-13 would most likely have been rated R as little as five years ago. There was a great documentary that came out in 2006 called This Film Is Not Yet Rated. If you haven't seen it, I can't recommend it highly enough, especially if you're interesting in the inner workings of the MPAA and its ratings board.
So, here we are two years later and Michael Bay's sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is in theaters. I think it would great to talk about the Transformers movies and ratings in general. Don't forget that you could win a Blu-ray copy of Transformers during our live event this afternoon. Simply come back between 2:00 and 4:00 (Eastern) and click below.
