Teaser trailer from 'Nightmare on Elm Street' delivers the goods

By now if you're a regular reader, you've figured out that I'm a huge opponent of the current Hollywood fad of recreating movies. I mean seriously, why mess with a good thing, right?

I really have to draw the line when you attempt to remake movies from my youth. Classics such as The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Midnight Madness should be left alone. Just as it would be preposterous to think of someone remaking Clerks or Pulp Fiction someday.

And this really rings true with horror remakes. I've always been on the Friday the 13th side of the fence when it comes down to the whole Freddy vs. Jason faceoff. I watched the new Friday the 13th and I literally cried.

I felt as though a piece of my childhood had just died.

So, you would think that I'd be equally filled with disdain towards the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, but surprisingly I'm not. I was rather uninterested in the remake to be honest, although I was intrigued at Jackie Earle Haley's involvement.

I think what bothered me most about the Nightmare series is how Freddy evolved over time to be almost a joke. He was more joker and less serial killer. In the teaser trailer released via MySpace, it seems that they've gotten rid of that element altogether.

As you can see, they left plenty of homages to the original, but got rid of the silliness from the original. The one chilling part that I love of the new trailer is the school yard chant being a part of the trailer. Talk about spooky. "One, two... Freddy's coming for you."

And since we are an equal opportunity web site, I thought I'd throw on the trailer from the original A Nightmare on Elm Street down below to compare to the new one.

What did you think of the new trailer? Are you upset that Robert Englund (pictured as Freddy) is no longer involved in the series?

A Nightmare on Elm Street is set for release on April 30, 2010.
