Sometimes studios bank on counter-programming to make a quick buck at the box office. That's why you see a glut of chick flicks that come out on Super Bowl weekend and the weeks leading up to it.
So, with a veritable death match being waged at the box office for this weekend's Halloween receipts between horror heavyweight Saw VI and underdog Paranormal Activity, Fox Searchlight decided to bow quirky comedy Gentlemen Broncos. I know what you're thinking (the same thing I thought), "Gentlemen what?"
Gentlemen Broncos is the new film from the guy behind Napoleon Dynamite and he rocks quirky like no other dude I know. In fact, don't take my word for it, check out the trailer.
And for those Flight of the Conchords fans out there, yes that was Jemaine Clement as Dr. Ronald Chevalier. He even has his own website where he shares his "wisdom" with the world. Fun tidbits like this technique for relaxation.
Of course, everyone is hyped over the Michael Jackson concert prep film This Is It which opens tomorrow, but something tells me that Gentlemen Broncos is going to enjoy its own fair share of business at the box office this weekend.
