• David almost earned a Ph.D. in English Literature from Yale. He only needed to finish his dissertation.
• David is married to actress Tea Leoni and they have one daughter, Madelaine West Duchovny.
• David's parents divorced when he was 11 years old, which he believes contributed to his introverted personality.
• Growing up, David loved to read. His father kept their home full of books.
• David filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox over the syndication rights to "The X-Files." The studio sold the rights at a low price and David lost a significant amount of profit.
• How does David feel about Hollywood? "There are no rules except power and profit and what it takes to increase each of those quantities. My attitude has been to accept it for what it is and try to prepare for a career where I can make movies which don't cater to the lowest commmon denominator."
• David has a dog named Blue.
• David didn't get his driver's license until he was 27 years old.
• David sued Fox for $25 million, claiming they denied him his "fair share" of the profits 'X-Files' made from syndication. The lawsuit was settled in 2001, to David's advantage.
• David and Tea call their daughter by her middle name, West. Going by your middle name is a tradition in Tea's family.
