  • Paul was born in New York, but his family soon moved to Sarasota, Florida where Paul grew up.
  • Some of Paul's childhood neighbors were circus families, as the Ringling Brothers, Barnum & Bailey Circus would spend the winters in Sarasota.
  • Paul graduated from Sarasota High School and was accepted to Boston University. After his freshman year he decided to travel west and go for it in California.
  • While trying to land a big role, Paul joined an improvisational group called The Groundlings. He isn't the only star to get their start from the group. Stars like Lisa Kudrow, Conan O'Brien, the late Phil Hartman and Julia Sweeney.
  • Pee-Wee Herman was born with The Groundlings and had quite a following. Big enough to get his own show by 1984.
  • Pee-Wee's Playhouse was one of the most successful children's shows until Paul was caught in a compromising position in an adult movie theater. His show was dropped immediately by CBS.
  • Paul made famous the words, "I know you are but what am I?"
  • Paul was a contestant on The Gong Show sometime in the '70s.
  • At some point in his life, Paul was a member of the Marine Corps. He was honoraby discharged.
