• Sophia is married to director Carlo Ponti. They have been married twice. Their first marriage was annulled in 1962 so that Carlo could avoid bigamy charges. They remarried in 1966 and have two sons.
• Sophia grew up in the slums of Naples.
• Sophia's nickname as a child was 'Toothpick' and 'The Stick.'
• The tax man cometh in 1982 and put Sophia in prison for 18 days in Italy.
• She has never liked Marlon Brando since the two starred together in The Countess From Hong Kong in 1966. Why? During a love scene he told her she had hair up her nostrils.
