• John converted from Presbyterian to Roman Catholic.
• John played football at the University of Southern California.
• John died of lung and stomach cancer.
• He is buried in Pacific View Memorial Park, Newport Beach, California.
• John's first choice for post-high school education was to attend the U.S. Naval Academy. He was the first alternate, but the first choice accepted.
• It was his football coach from USC who is responsible for Duke's start in film. Coach Jones got him a job as a prop assistant at the studios.
• Duke visited a children's hospital at 3:00 a.m. once because a little girl on her death bed had one wish to see him. He not only visited her, but every patient in the hospital.
• John was married to Pilar Palette in from 1954 until his death in 1979.
• John's first wife was Josephine Saenz.
• John's second marriage lasted eight years to Esperanza Bauer.
• Jon has seven children and more 20 grandchildren today.
• Duke was the lead man in 142 movies.
• Big, bad western cowboy dressed in a pink, fluffy bunny suit for the variety show "Laugh-In" in 1969.
