• HIs birthname is Joseph Lane, but he changed it when he was 22, after finding another actor with the same name. Nathan came from his favorite character in the musical 'Guys & Dolls,' Nathan Detroit. Coincidentally, he played that character in the Broadway musical in 1992.
• Nathan has won Best Actor Tony's for his performances.
• Nathan has two older brothers.
• He graduated from St. Peter's Prep School in Jersey City.
• Nathan won a scholarship to St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia but when the scholarship money ran out, Nathan was forced to return home.
• After leaving St. Joseph's, he worked at the county clerk's office, as a singing messenger and did stand-up.
• Nathan has battled alcoholism throughout his life, but is successfully sober. He began his sobering up plot in 1993.
