• His real name is William George Zane, Jr.
• Billy graduated from Francis Parker High School in Chicago. He went abroad in 1982 and studied at the American School in Switerland.
• Billy went to high school with actresses Darryl Hannah and Jennifer Beals.
• Billy left the east and traveled to California to become an actor. Three weeks after arriving in Hollywood he had his first acting job.
• Billy met Lisa Collins while filming Dead Calm. They were married in 1988 but divorced seven years later.
• Billy's sister is actress Lisa Zane.
• Billy is a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He's wearing his fraternity ring in Titanic.
• Billy says he shaves his head because it is more aerodynamic for swimming, which is one of his favorite hobbies.
• Billy is an avid car collecter. His favorites are mustangs, especially the 1964 convertibles.
