• Kris is married to Lisa Meyers and they have five children.
• Kris has two children with his first wife, Fran Beir.
• Kris and his second wife, Rita Coolidge, have one daughter. The couple divorced in 1980 due to Kris's heavy drinking problem.
• Kris studied at Ponoma College in California before earning a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.
• His father was an Air Force general and forced a military life on Kris. After his study at Oxford, he joined the Air Force. He was a Captain when he decided to pursue another career.
• Kris loved music and wanted to make a living writing songs so he moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
• While trying to get his songs into the right hands, Kris was a janitor at a music studio and worked as a commercial helicopter pilot.
• After being ignored by country legend Johnny Cash at first, Kris landed a helicopter in Cash's front yard and gave him more of his demos. Cash recorded 'Sunday Morning Coming Down' and the song won Song of the Year with the Country Music Association.
• Kris was an alcoholic. His bottle-and-a-half of Jack Daniel's a day not only caused his divorce, but was also the reason he lost his job as a copter pilot. He fell asleep at the controls.
• Kris has made his name as an outstanding songwriter.
• Kris had elective heart bypass surgery in 1999.
• He dated Janis Joplin and wrote one of her most popular songs, 'Me & Bobby McGee.'
