• Bernie was married to wife Rhonda from 1977 until his death in 2008. They have one daughter, Je'Niece.
• Bernie's mother died when he was a sophomore in high school. She had breast cancer for seven years and told no one.
• Bernie grew up in a full house. Twelve people (cousins, aunts, nephews, siblings) live under the one roof.
• Bernie had two brothers. Both have passed away. One died one year after his mother died, on the exact same day.
• His show, 'The Bernie Mac Show,' was based on the six years he raised his nieces and nephews and also a family friend who was doing the same.
• Even though Bernie didn't join the comedy circuit until 1977, his first go at stand-up was in church when he was eight years old. He decided to tell a story about his grandparents, one they weren't happy for the congregation to hear...
