Did You Know?

• Brian did a little work in Scotland in but his career took off on the London stage in 1967.
• Brian mopped the floors in the local theater when he was fifteen. He watched and learned then left to study drama in London.
• After Manhunter, Brian went back to England to be with his kids and to feed his hunger for the stage.
• Brian does nothing in preparation for any of his roles. In fact, he is completely against "researching for roles." He says, "I don't do research. Research is bollocks. Research is an excuse for a lack of talent. People shouldn't research the role, its acting...this emphasis you Americans have on research drives me fucking nuts. It's like the death of acting. I think there should be an award for research -- for the best-researched role of the year. It's not about research -- it's about doing it. It's all about the imagination -- there's the script and you just do it."

Brian was the first Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter. The role was taken over by Sir Anthony Hopkins in The Silence Of The Lambs in 1991.
